How to Turn a QR Code into an NFC Tag
You can turn a QR code into an NFC tag by reading what the QR code holds and writing the same content to a tag. In NFC Wizard, open QR to NFC, scan the code with your camera or choose a photo of it, check what the app detected, and tap a blank tag. Anyone can then tap the tag instead of scanning the code.
Why bother when the QR code works?
- Taps work in low light, at an angle, and through a phone case — no focusing a camera
- Tags survive where printed codes fade, scuff or get wet
- A tap feels faster at a counter, a door or a product display
- You keep the QR code as a fallback for phones without NFC
What NFC Wizard can convert
The app looks at what the QR code contains and picks the matching NFC record:
- Links: menus, review pages, booking pages, social profiles
- Plain text
- Contact cards (vCard)
- Wi-Fi network details (the WIFI: format routers print)
Step by step
- Open QR to NFC
- Scan the QR code with the camera, or pick a screenshot or photo from your gallery
- Check the detected type and content. The app also shows how many bytes it needs, so you can see whether it fits your tag
- Tap write and hold a blank tag to the back of your phone
- Test the tag with a different phone before you print or stick a batch
Free or Premium?
QR to NFC is free for links and text. Contact cards and Wi-Fi are Premium record types; on the free plan you can try them once by watching a short ad.
Watch out for short links and redirects
Many QR codes point to a short or "dynamic" link that redirects somewhere else. The tag stores that same short link, so it keeps working exactly as long as the redirect service does. If you'd rather not depend on it, open the link once, copy the final address, and write that instead.
Doing a lot of them?
If every tag needs the same content, write the first one with QR to NFC, save it as a template, and use Bulk Write for the rest, with verify-after-write on so every tag is checked.
Try it yourself
NFC Wizard is free for iPhone and Android.
